Bridging differences

 2020年に開催地を京橋 八重洲を中心とする東京駅東側に移し、3年目 となったT3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO。「次世代の写真文化を育む 「アジアのハブ」となることをビジョンに掲げ、ここに来れば「東アジアの 写真の今」がわかる場所を作っていく。その想いや言葉が、現実としての輪郭を帯びてきたのを感じ始めています。
例えばそれは、東京ミッドタウン八重洲や、TOKYO TORCH Parkなど、新たに4つの展示会場が加わったこと。 新たに、京橋を舞台に写真家と書 き手が東京の記録を紡ぐ3年間のプロジェクト「Tokyo Dialogue 2022- 2024」がスタートしたこと。従来のトークイベント、フォトマーケットに加え、プロジェクションナイト、シンポジウムなどの枠組みを展開したことで、国内外100組以上の作家が参加する場へと変化しています。
都市をメディアとして捉え、公共空間の中で行われるフォトフェスティバル。ドイツ出身の哲学者、ハンナ・アーレントは、公的領域を「テーブル」に 例え、異なる価値観を持った人々がその周りを座るように囲む場所だと言い ました。東京にしかない写真祭の形を、その成長と多様性と共に楽しんで いただけると嬉しく思います。
T3 Photo Festival Tokyo is in its third year since the venue was moved to the area to the east of Tokyo Station, centering around Kyobashi and Yaesu, in 2020. With the vision of creating an Asian hub to nurture the next-generation photography culture, we have endeavored to create a place where visitors can learn about the current circumstances surrounding photography in East Asia. We now feel that the contours of those hopes have finally become visible. For example, four new exhibition venues have been added, including the Tokyo Midtown Yaesu commercial complex and Tokyo Torch Park; Tokyo Dialogue 2022 - 2024, a new three-year project in which photographers and writers pair up to weave records of Tokyo in Kyobashi, was launched; and new projects like Projection Nights and a symposium in addition to the regular public discussions and T3 Photo Market have led to the development of T3 Photo Festival Tokyo into a forum where more than 100 artists from Japan and elsewhere participate. Viewing the town as a medium, this photo festival is held in public spaces. According to German philosopher Hannah Arendt, the way we interact with each other in the public sphere is much like people with different values sitting around a table. We hope visitors will enjoy this unique growing and diversifying photo festival in Tokyo.
