In the wake of the disaster, the presence of invisible radioactive materials forced us to reconsider what we overlook in our daily lives. Distancing himself from prevailing media narratives, photographer Murakoshi Toshiya has steadily gazed upon the landscapes of his native Fukushima, guided by his own senses and memories. For Murakoshi, photography is not merely a record, but the trace of an attempt to touch the invisible. Photographs do not exist to explain the world, he suggests, but serve as a device to question what we take for granted as having “seen.” As time quietly slips away, each image imprints a fleeting fragment of light and time. Almost like a prayer, they act as a subtle catalyst for how we look at the world next—leaving a gentle question that echoes through the exhibition space for every viewer
