Marc Feustel highlights two perspectives that were overlooked in the 1974 "New Japanese Photography" exhibition. The first is the female perspective. Although 15 photographers were featured, none were women. This exhibition offers an alternative narrative by presenting significant works from female photographers active during that period. The second overlooked aspect is the "photobook." While Shōji Yamagishi noted that Japanese photography was primarily created for the printed page, only one photobook was included in the 1974 exhibition, with the rest displayed as prints. This exhibition emphasizes the importance and diversity of photobooks today, exploring how the experience of viewing photography differs between "the page and the wall."
