The year 2024 marks 50 years since “New Japanese Photography” was held in 1974. The “NEW JAPANESE PHOTOGRAPHY 1974→2024” exhibition will feature 7 artists who embody the ‘present’ in consideration of the various changes that have occurred over this half century, as a presentation of “New Japanese Photography: 50 years later.” The scope encompassed by the words, “New Japanese Photography” has steadily transformed during the passage of these 50 years, and this exhibition will serve an unparalleled opportunity to put that on display, as well as a response to that 1974 exhibition.

写真批評／写真史研究。1980年、東京生まれ。立教大学ほか非常勤講師。『ハーパーズ・バザー』2018年9月号に「日本の今を切り取る新世代フォトグラファー」、『STUDIO VOICE』2018年3月号に「偏／遍在するドキュメンタリー」、『装苑』2019年7月号に「独自性を放つ色彩の表現者たち 日本の写真作家と、色のはなし」を寄稿、2023年4月号から2024年3月号まで『キヤノンフォトサークル』で「カメラが見つめる時代――写真史をアップデートする」を連載。T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO 2023ゲストキュレーター。写真表現の校閲室「調エル」を主宰。
Shirabe Bunmei is a photography critic and researcher of photographic history. Born in Tokyo in 1980, he is a part-time instructor at Rikkyo University and elsewhere. He contributed “Nihon no Ima wo Kiritoru Shinsedai Fotogurafaa” (A New Generation of Photographers Capturing Japan Today) to the September 2018 issue of Harper’s BAZAAR, “Hen/Henzai suru Dokyumentarii” (One-sided/Omnipresent Documentaries) to the March 2018 issue of STUDIO VOICE, and “Dokujisei wo Hanatsu Shikisai no Hyogenshatachi Nihon no Shashinsakka to, Iro no Hanashi” (Unique Expressors of Color: A discussion of colors with Japanese photographers) in the July 2019 issue of SO-EN. From April 2023 to March 2024, he published the series, “Kamera ga Mitsumeru Jidai—Shashinshi wo Appudeeto Suru” (An Era Caught on Camera—Updating the History of Photography) in Canon Photo Circle. He served as guest curator for T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO 2023 and is head of Totonoeru, an editing service for photographic expression.

東京都写真美術館学芸員。2015年より同美術館 映像部門学芸員として、2020年より写真部門学芸員として勤務。企画・担当した展覧会に「マジック・ランタン 光と影の映像史」（2018年）、「見るは触れる 日本の新進作家 vol. 19」（2022年）、「TOPコレクション 何が見える？「覗き見る」まなざしの系譜」（2023年）など。初期写真史・映像史から現代美術まで様々な作例を通じ、写真的なイメージと支持体となるメディアや装置の関係について関心を持ち、調査研究等をおこなっている。
Endo Miyuki is employed at Tokyo Photographic Art Museum where she has worked as curator in the Moving image section since 2015 and in the Photography section since 2020. She has planned and been in charge of exhibitions including “The Magic Lantern: A Short History of Light and Shadow” (2018), “Seeing as Though Touching : Contemporary Japanese Photography vol. 19” (2022), and “TOP Collection: A Genealogy of ‘Peep Media’ and the Gaze” (2023). Through a variety of examples, from the early days of photography and moving image to contemporary art, she has been interested in and researched the relationship between photographic images and the supporting platforms of media and devices.
