わたしたちはあらゆる関係性の中で生き、生かされています。写真を撮るということは、わたしという存在を媒介として、現象そのものを掬い取る行為でもあります。 写真に写っている現象が過去である一方で、それを提示する地点においては、ただの固定化された過去の事象ではなく、現在のあなたの状態や環境を含めて、ひとりひとり違った形で写真との関係が生まれると思っています。写真そのものが変化せずとも、撮り手であるわたしが制御できないほどに、写真はさまざまな余白を持って存在しています。

光、窓、植物。
或いは、
空、水、人間。

わたしたちの日常の中にある小さな存在を見つめて、それらを肯定すること。
わたしやあなたを含めて、あらゆる関係性の中にそれらが存在していること。 　
あなたと写真に良い関係が生まれれば幸いです。

We live within all kinds of relationships, and these relationships are what sustain us.
For me, taking a photograph is an act of carefully gathering phenomena with the camera, myself as the mediator. The phenomena that appear in a photograph belong to the past, and yet in the moment a photograph is shown, the phenomena it records become untethered from the past. I believe that each person views a photograph in a unique way that arises from factors such as their present state of mind and circumstances, all of which generate a new relationship with the photograph. Although the image does not change, the photograph exists within an openness that allows for multiple interpretations--certainly not something that I, as the photographer, could ever control.
Light, windows, plants.
Or perhaps
sky, water, people.
To become closely aware of the small presences in our everyday lives and to affirm them.
To recognize that these presences and you and I all exist in a state of interconnectedness.
I will be glad if you find your own special relationship with photographs.

嶌村 吉祥丸｜Shimamura Kisshomaru

東京生まれ。アーティスト・写真家として、分野を越境し国内外を問わず活動。さまざまな表現者と協働しながらsame gallery (東京)やkoen(京都)のディレクターとして企画・キュレーションを行うほか、「ラーメン吉祥丸」やフレグランスブランド「kibn」をプロデュース。主な個展に"Unusual Usual"(Portland, 2014)、 “Inside Out” (Warsaw, 2016)、"photosynthesis"(Tokyo, 2020)など。主な作品集に写真集"what is good  ?"。

Born in Tokyo. He works as an artist and photographer both domestically and internationally, crossing borders between different fields. He collaborates with various artists and curates as director of same gallery (Tokyo) and koen (Kyoto), and produces “Ramen Kisshomaru” and the fragrance brand “kibn”.
Major solo exhibitions include “Unusual Usual” (Portland, 2014), “Inside Out” (Warsaw, 2016), and “photosynthesis” (Tokyo, 2020). Major publications include the photo book “what is good?”
